Hi guys and welcome to the Waterside Home Tour!
Today is an exciting day, because it’s the first home tour that I’ve ever been asked to join as a participant of a week long home tour series! Yay! You guys, I couldn’t be more thrilled…and not to mention, nervous! I must say though, Emily, blogger extraordinaire over at Table and Hearth and designer/planner/architect of this amazing home tour series, has made me feel soooo comfortable amongst this amazing group of talented women.
Please be sure to join us throughout the week as we share our coastal homes, believe me, you’ll be happy you did. Oh and just to warn you, your Pinterest account will have several new pins…I can promise you that. 😉
So, if this is your first time visiting my blog – Welcome!
I’m Marie – Wife to Jon and Mommy to Henry (5) and Eliza (3). We live in Michigan and come spring, when the snow and ice finally thaw, we’re outside and out on the lake.
We like to ski, wakeboard, tube and swim.
As for our home decor – we like to mix the old with the new. It’s a lakehouse/farmhouse/cottage vibe going on in the inside and a nautical theme on the outside.
So, wakeboard to our dock, park your boat and come on over!
Welcome to our home. Come on up!
Take a seat and enjoy the view.
Care for some lemon water?
I love these happy paper straws. I buy them all the time – they’re just too fun!
Sidenote: Am I the only one who currently has a cute paper napkin and adorable straw collection?
Please tell me I’m not alone… 😉
Oh, and of course, our Michigan summer wouldn’t be complete without our Michigan cutting board being put to good use. For you fellow Michiganders, a similar cutting board can be found here.
Come on out of the sun and let’s walk over to our covered deck.
I love drinking an afternoon cup of coffee up here in this shaded space. It’s so relaxing and it’s a blast to watch all the boat traffic go by, especially on the weekends!
Welp, I suppose we should head inside and I’ll show you around…
We have a little command center/mudroom/office off of the deck. I call it our “moffice.” It’s a drop center for everything…and I do mean, everything. Hence the fact that I’m going to skip right on by this area and move on toward the kitchen.
Just close your eyes as you walk by and try not to step on a Lego…mmm-kay?!
Hey, just keeping it real here, folks. 😉
Okay, so past the “moffice” is the kitchen.
Our vintage wooden oars stay up all year and for good reason.
A couple years ago I looked everywhere for these bad boys and when I eventually found these oars – while on vacation and at an old antique shop – I had decided I wasn’t leaving without them. While wearing a long maxi dress I carried both oars as I biked the mile long journey back to our vacation rental.
It was no easy feat.
So, there they are – proudly displayed for all to see!
Next up is our dining space and it’s the first place you see when you walk through our front door and it’s the most frequented room in our home. It sits back from the deck area, but it still makes for great lake viewing.
So many wonderful memories are made daily while gathered around this table.
Well, that is until Paw Patrol comes on the tv, then the kids beeline it to the couch…sippy cups in hand!
I painted and stenciled these chairs about a year ago and I still loooove them! They were inspired by, who else, but the amazing Joanna Gaines.
You can read more about these chairs here.
As for our summer decor, nothing fits our home better than lots of lanterns and small vases to finish off the light and airy lakeside feel that I tend to lean toward when decorating this space.
As we all know, dishes need to be washed and put away. Luckily, we get a nice breeze that comes through the house from the lake. It makes doing chores seem not so bad. 🙂
Let’s venture on into the living room, shall we?
This space is currently my happy place. I ordered this piece of furniture about four months ago and it just arrived this past weekend, so I’m beyond thrilled to be sharing it here on this home tour! I literally just blogged all about it on Monday! Feel free to read more about it here. The track hardware can be found here. 🙂
I was able to style it a bit for this tour, although, I can tell you that the shelves already look different. It’s so fun to move around decor and change the look of this unit. I’ve loved displaying our propeller, that scale, those baskets and some of our favorite books!
I’m obsessed. Obsessed, I say.
The lower cabinets are currently housing games, puzzles, photo albums and baby books. It serves not only as an entertainment center, but also as a larger than life storage unit!
Why not, right?!
The more storage, the better! Who’s with me?!
As for our mantel, I’m keeping it simple for now. Yeaaaaaah, we’ll see how long that’ll last! 😉
There you have it!
Thanks so very much for stopping by my Waterside Home Tour today!
This tour was so much fun to put together!
Happy summer, stay cool, breathe in deep and don’t forget to enjoy a sunrise or two…
Thanks again. 🙂
Summer Wishes,
Marie 🙂

I love all of the white mixed with the pops of dark. You have a gorgeous home! Thanks for sharing a tour.
LOVE your house! Gorgeous!!
Oh Marie, your house is stunning. Just stunning. I love every single thing about it! And you are definitely not the only one who has an obsession with paper straws… I have an entire box dedicated to just paper straws. Lol. We have hundreds. It's kind of ridiculous, actually.
Your house is gorgeous Marie!!! Seriously, it's so so beautiful!! I love every part of it! I am so jealous of your lakeviews and your shaded area outside! What a fun post!!
Marie, Your home is welcoming and stylish. Thanks for sharing potions of your beautiful lake life with us. I will be over soon for a refreshing drink 🙂
Your home looks so comfortable and stylish! What a gorgeous view you have – you and your family must LOVE it! 🙂
I am in love with your style. So many beautiful details. Do you know how the oars are attached to the wall? I have a few old oars that I can't quite figure out the best way to hang. Thanks! Great tour, so glad I stopped by. 🙂
Oh my gosh, that view!!! Those oars!!! And the inside of your home is just as gorgeous as the outside! Thank you so much for taking part in the tour, it's absolutely stunning!
Thank you! Having kids, I love to add those two colors, as well as mixing the old with the new. It makes it so I don't have a furniture panic attack every 15 minutes! LOL! 😉
Thanks soooooo much, girl! 🙂 🙂
Thank you, Lindsay! I love YOUR house!!!! Yes – paper straws! They're just too fun. I have problems…. 😉 LOL!
Oh, gee, girl. Thank you! You need to come on over, Lizzie! We could mimosas out on the deck!
Sounds wonderful! 😉 Thanks so much!
Thank you! We've definitely made some amazing memories here in this little cottage of ours. 🙂
Thank you so much! Yes. The oars are attached with screw in bike hooks! It was my husband's idea and it has worked out great! Let me know if you need more info, I'd be happy to share. 🙂
Thank you!!! Oh and thank you for having me, Emily. This was so fun!
Hi, I thought I commented on your beautiful lakeside home, This is the perfect lakeside home. I heard Michigan is one of the most beautiful places in the summer time. I truly would love to visit one day. You have done a fabulous job making your home look very beachy and homey. Maria
You have such a lovely outdoor space and I love how airy and bright the inside is! The entertainment center with the barn doors is awesome! It looks like it was made for that space.
Wow! I love your tour!! That kitchen. The oars. That new cabinet! Ah-mazing. It feels perfect for summer – so relaxed and comfortable with an elegance to it all. And I totally rock a huge paper straw and cute napkin collection, too;)
So pretty! We are moving in the next 2 months and I'm very excited to have a house we plan to be in for a while to style. You've given me lots of inspiration! (You might get an angry phone call from my husband later) 🙂
Thanks for showing a lake home that is light and airy without being covered in seashells or flamingoes. We are on a lake in SC and I really struggle with this…. Though we have 2 little girls, so we do have mermaids! (Even mermaid Legos)
Can you share where you got the entertainment center? I am looking for something exactly like that!
I would love to know as well!
