What We Wore in Scotland

We just returned back from a memorable trip to London and Scotland! While I go through my gazillion photos for a blog recap, I thought I’d hop on and share some Amazon purchases that held up to the Scottish wind, rain, sunshine, rainbows and Highland “Coos”!

Ah, yes. The Highland Cows. Let me tell you that I’ve never been happier to step in huge piles of poo than I was on this particular day! These sweet and beautiful animals were such a joy to be around and my long-lasting Hunter Boots held up amongst the rain, mud puddles and poo along the way! I’ve had these boots/wellies for several years and I just knew I needed to take them with me! Also, I have large calves, so I have the adjustable Hunter Boots to allow for my calves to breathe. 😉

We love to be outside and we love to hike. Scotland provided us with amble opportunities for exactly that. It was so windy that, at times, it literally took our breath away, but the wild winds made for the best memories!

The kids dressed in layers and we made sure they had waterproof hiking boots, waterproof rain coats, wool hiking socks and warm insulated pants.

Jon wore this outer layer jacket on repeat. He said his hiking boots were relatively lightweight (he even wore them on the plane) and his rain jacket protected him from the wind and rain. He also wore hiking pants over athletic tights and he stayed very comfortable. His Osprey backpack was incredibly handy for our keys, an EpiPen, wallet, some snacks and a portable phone charger.

I made sure to dress in layers, as well, when hiking. The wind was nuts, but I was remarkably comfortable both while ascending and descending the hikes. I was extra grateful for these pants – they were waterproof and insulated. Also, I wore this rain jacket practically every single day! It was perfect!

Jane’s little raincoat was the absolute cutest! She was nice and snug in it, too. She wore this jacket 75% of the time!

I wish I could remember where I bought her hat. It kept her nice and warm and it was so cute!

Her little hiking boots were perfect and kept her feet nice and warm.

Jon’s sun shirt provided him with an extra light layer. We quickly learned that Scotland is all about layers.

Don’t mind my tennis shoes… I needed comfort. But my simple black hat was so helpful on sunny days and my little brown purse helped with keeping things easy and organized while in and out of our rental van. Also, I made sure to keep it in front of me, zipped and fastened due to pickpocketing in the larger cities.

Jane had just outgrown her little Hunter Boots for this trip. She had even outgrown Henry and Eliza’s hand-me-down boots. So at the eleventh hour before we left, I ordered these cute little green boots. They worked great for the trip and weren’t too heavy! Jane was able to happily stomp through all the puddles she wanted!

I absolutely loved Jane’s bright jacket which contrasted with the rustic background! This was also a hand-me-down from when Eliza was little. It’s a Tommy Hilfiger, and I’m sure I bought it on a sale rack years ago.

I found this cute red one that is insulated and oh-so-cute!

Lastly, we traveled with only carry-ons and backpacks. This allowed for us to easily count our luggage every time we used a different mode of transportation; everyone had one luggage and one backpack. We were super happy with our expandable carry-ons. They provided a perfect amount of extra space!

We had the most amazing time and I can’t wait to start in on my recaps! Thanks so much for scrolling through!

  1. I was so glad to see you linked up today (mostly because I’ve been trying to search for your Glacier part posts! LOL. We’re planning a trip there and I remember your beautiful photos and doable itinerary. We are going in September though and I’m already planning for layers so I bookmarked a few things you’ve listed. It sounds like you all had a wonderful time and I can’t wait to read more about your trip.
