A Spooky Ceramic Haunted House Makeover

This cute little haunted house was gifted to me years ago and every year since I’ve displayed it throughout our home during Halloween.  Over the last couple of years I’ve considered giving it a little makeover.  I wanted to make it a little….well, a little more spooky.  The cord was also limiting me on where it could be displayed, so I knew that needed to be remedied, as well.
I removed the light under the little haunted house…
I then got to work painting the house black.  At this point I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep the ghosts and pumpkins their original color, so I painted around them.
Okay, okay…it was a little too dark and most of the features were lost behind the dark paint so I decided to use a paper towel to wipe off some of the excess paint and I also decided to wipe a little of that paint onto the ghosts and pumpkins.
I had purchased these remote controlled tea lights that I found from Amazon for a future Christmas project and decided to use one of the tea lights for this project.
Hot glue to the rescue!  Yup, I hot glued one of these tea lights to the bottom of the house and now I’m no longer limited on where the house can be displayed!  Woohoo!

Don’t mind my glue gun, the kids use it all the time, hence the glitter.  Hahaha!

There you have it!  The cutest and most simple little haunted house makeover…errrr makeUNDER!  😉 I’d love to hear what you think!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  This was such a fun little project!

  1. Hi Marie,
I have a pretty extensive Christmas village I’d like to your the tea lights to, does it take the paint off? Some of the houses hold the tea light in the back and not on the bottom. Thanks!
