Scotland – Day 7 – Falkland, Back to Edinburgh, London and Home
Welp, it’s been well over a year since we’ve arrived home from Scotland and I’m finally posting this last part of our journey! Better late than never! If memory serves me right, these last days of our trip were equally fun and exhausting. We pushed these kids hard, but they kept up and were doing great…regardless of what this photo depicts. 😉

We made our way to Falkland. The drive was absolutely stunning and the roads traveled were pretty and quaint.

We arrived in Fife and to be honest, if I were to go back to Scotland, I’d spend my time in the Highlands, Skye, and Fife.

We wanted to check out this area because we’re big “Outlander” fans. Falkland served at “1940s Inverness” in the TV series of “Outlander.”

Little did we know that this last part of our trip would be such an amazing highlight. I mean, we knew it’d be good, but it was better than good. It was charming, it was whimsical and it was magical.

If you’re an Outlander viewer, you’ll recognize this spot, Bruce Fountain, as the spot of Jamie’s ghost.

Here’s Jon pretending to be Jamie looking into the window at the Covenanter Hotel, AKA “Mrs. Baird’s Guesthouse,” at Claire. Ahem…I mean Marie! 😉

…….and here I am…being just me and happy and excited and just thrilled to be in this spot!

A smooch.

Just off to the side is what was used as, “Farrells General Store” in the series. It’s when Claire looks into the window and gazes at a blue and white vase.

The location below is, “Mrs. Baird’s Bed and Breakfast.” It’s where Claire and Frank stay on their honeymoon. We went inside for coffee, hot cocoa and treats for the kids.

You can actually stay in the room Claire and Frank stayed in. We didn’t see the room itself, but the “lobby” was quite romantic and quiet.

Here’s me having a “mommy moment,” while sweet and tired little Jane was also having a “moment.” They should’ve included this in the show. Hahaha!

Me pretending to be Claire, but with tennis shoes and socks.

This woman is the owner of the store and we purchased a handmade piece of art made of wool of a picture of Jamie and Claire at the stones.

We decided to walk around and explore more of this area. We didn’t have much time, but just enough to take in this part of the village/area.

This shop was fun to visit and they said there was more filming that took place just outside their doors not too far from this building.

I was trying to take it all in. We just adored this place.

It was time to get back on the road and head to our hotel. If you follow me on IG, you know that Henry has an alter ego, Edna Joy Beans. It’s a long story…. but let’s just say, he’s a hilarious boy!

Our ride out of town…

Cleaning up the car to return it before taking the train back to London the next morning.

We stayed one more night in Edinburgh since our train was leaving early the next day. Once checked in I realized just how tired I was and that I needed a break for a bit. Hahaha.

I can’t remember the order of things, but it looks like we then went out for coffee – which was amazing and this name is perfect!!!

Henry may or may not have had a sip.

We snapped one more Edinburgh selfie…

Some last minute window shopping…

Fish and Chips…

Okay, so THIS was our last Edinburgh selfie, and no, we didn’t get tattoos or piercings. Haha!

Everyone settled into the hotel for the night and I headed out to a shop for one more little souvenir.

Here I am needing that break, but not getting it. Hahahaha! They’re still my favorite people and I wouldn’t change a thing. Love them and their crazy antics.

Jane stayed in Jon’s room and I had this… LOL! All I can do is laugh… love these crazy kids!

The next morning we woke for an easy walk from Premier Inn to the train station.

Waverley Station.

Being on time like Jon is, we arrived way too early for our train and as the train left the station, we learned we were on the wrong train, so then we had to get off and wait for the correct train. It’s like the one time punctuality didn’t work well for Jon. Who knew being 30 minutes early could have its consequences, but I felt like I was amongst my people of not exactly being super early, but rather just on time. LOL!

It was fun to get off the train and check out another station. We were also able to see a steam engine go by, which was really cool!

Train station kisses and a silly boy.

Love this fella, and that goofy girl between us.

Our train arrived and we were ready to go! We traveled First Class on the LNER and, to us, it was worth it! I’m telling you, this train ride to and from Scotland was a HUGE highlight for me and the kids!

I absolutely LOOOOOOOVED taking these train rides!!!

The train ride ended and we were back in London, which also meant that our trip was about to end.

Back at King’s Cross.

After taking the train, getting on the Tube and a kind of crazy bus ride full of some questionable characters along the way, we had arrived at our hotel, grabbed some more caffeine and stayed put at our hotel until we had to leave to the airport in the morning, which was just a quick ride over to the airport.

The kids doing whatever this is to pass the time…

We woke up nice and early to head over to Heathrow Airport, and we were early, like five hours early…Jon’s punctuality was back in full effect.

We found a great place to sit for breakfast and just hangout for a while before heading to our boarding area. It was really nice.

….and then we boarded and long flight home and were back in Michigan with THE most incredible memories of our travels to the UK. Scotland has my heart. I left a piece of it there. Now if only I could time travel………

Thank you so much for scrolling through!
Slàinte,
Marie 🙂
